Last week my wife and I sat down to watch the movie “Henry Poole is Here“. For a week now I have been trying to figure out how to do a review of the film or use it’s contents for a post. I am still not sure I can. While the film was darker than I thought it would be, there were some good parts. There were some great moments and yet it fell really flat on the potential of what it could have been. For example, I thought that they could have really expanded on the thought that faith and Jesus are what can be miraculous…not a “stucco Jesus”.
What I found most interesting is that our LIFE group is currently doing a study of the book “Just Walk Across The Room” by Bill Hybels. This film could almost be used as a resource for that book. Henry Poole’s neighbor was an example of the “be with” concept and continuing to invest in his life even when he rejected her….and her faith. While I can’t say it was a great film, or even give it 4 stars, “Henry Poole is Here” is worth the $1 rental from Redbox. If nothing else it gives some place for thoughts on faith, believing in something and evangelism.

I enjoyed the your review and your interesting take on it. However, I thought that I would let you know that there is a new version of the film that has been released and it is a new family edition. I think you would enjoy it. I absolutely loved this movie. It was such a great story about a real life guy who was struggling with his faith and accepting it. This is something that I’ve been struggling with myself for the past couple of years. It was such an encouragement to see this played out. And it’s really cool that I’ve found a site, http://www.henrypoolebelieves.com. Right now it looks like they are giving away 10 copies of the movie for free. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, or even if you have, you could always give it to a friend, but it’s definitely worth checking out! I would encourage you to take the time to watch this new version!
