Special Sunday Sermon Notes

October 9, 2011 — 2 Comments

Today’s service at Rock City Church wasn’t your normal Sunday on many levels. It’s not often that I have tears streaming down my face on a Sunday morning. Today, however, I did. I cried tears of pure joy as my 11 year old and first born child was baptized. Words cannot describe what it felt like at that moment. There is no greater joy than knowing that your children are walking in the Lord and publicly display their commitment. Our 8 year old was baptized just a few weeks ago. The emotion was still the same. Powerful. Joy.

Here are the notes, followed by the video of this incredible moment for our family.

Verse: Matthew 16:24-26

  • Life can be summed up in 4 words: In the beginning God
  • There’s something about divine moments that require them to be seized.
  • Giving ourselves to great things comes at a great personal cost.
  • The greater the opportunity, the greater the sacrifice that is required.
  • Something powerful happens when we become fully alive – people are moved.
  • One of the greatest results of seizing divine moments is that it pulls so many others into their own.
  • When we’re obedient; when we submit ourselves to His purpose, God shows up.
  • Jesus’ life was an expression of the life of God, and perhaps the greatest of all miracles is that we can know this same experience. Our lives become expressions of the living God.
  • Simple obedience is more important than tradition any day.
  • I will never fully live the purpose of God in my life without the continued and personal guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Now one of the most memorable and beautiful moments of my life as a father (simulcast into the worship area and the live version)
