Sermon Notes 11.6.2011

November 7, 2011 — Leave a comment

We started a new series yesterday at Rock City Church called “Why Worry”. If the first Sunday of this series is any indication, it is going to be another amazing time of self inspection and challenge. Great service yesterday. Before we get into the notes, the worship team absolutely BROUGHT it yesterday. They sang one of my personal favorites, “Forever Reign” and “Arms Open Wide” by Hillsong. Great morning of worship and teaching.

Sermon: Turning Worry Into Wonder

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34

  • Worry is a sin issue
  • Worry is a control issue
  • Worry is a focus issue
  • Anxiety, which is a close relative of worry, is the direct result of the fruitless search for life’s answers using our limited human minds.
  • In our spirit is where God speaks.
  • Worry is trusting in my own abilities and strength, rather than trusting in God.
  • Worry in this finite and temporary life leads to hopelessness.
  • Wonder in an infinite and Spirit God leads to supernatural peace.
  • To live a life of peace and faith, I must turn my worry into wonder.
My personal scribbles:
  • Worry is the opposite of faith.
  • Worry is the sin of distrusting the promises and the power of God.
  • The focus of my life determines the outcome of my life.
  • I am a spirit
  • I have a soul
  • I live in a body
What do you worry about?
