This week was the final sermon in the “Why Worry” series at Rock City Church. It’s been a powerful series which has challenged me, a chronic worrier, to really think about why I worry and what I can do about it. Below are the notes from this morning.
Series: Why Worry?
Title: God Cares About My Money
Scripture: Matthew 6:19-21, 24-25
- Our affluence is one of the leading causes of worry in our lives.
- From start to finish, Scripture emphasizes God’s ownership of everything.
- God makes everything that is His available to us – not to own, but to use.
- The key to being a good steward is acting in the owners best interest.
- Stewardship is not a narrow subcategory of the Christian life; it is the Christian life.
- When we come to Christ, God puts all of His resources at our disposal, and He also expects us to put all of our resources at His disposal.
- Jesus emphatically illustrates through much of His teaching that our wealth puts us at an extreme spiritual disadvantage.
- Tithing and generosity forces us to have faith and reminds us that we are putting God first in our lives.
- God gives to us so that He can give through us.
- It is only when we can quiet the worry in us and seek God and His kingdom above all else, over the empty, shallow things of this life, that we can truly experience true and everlasting life.
