Monday Morning Rewind

Yesterday was just another example of why I love calling Rock City Church “home”. First off, a big old welcome back to our Lead Pastor, Chad Fisher. After taking a well deserved vacation with his beautiful family, Pastor Chad was back in the saddle leading the worship team. Ever since the first day we walked through the doors of Rock City, I have not wanted to miss the opening worship set. It is a benchmark of what makes Rock City…well, Rock City. Yesterday was no different. Now that I have new Sunday morning duties to attend to (being on staff), I still try to sneak in to catch as much of the worship as I can. It does the heart, mind and soul good.

For the second week in a row, we had a guest speaker. Dr. Todd Marrah spoke yesterday on the “Frequency of Jesus” throughout the Old Testament. I must admit that I was humbled by his extensive knowledge of scripture. There were several points he made about the lineage of Jesus that I had never considered. It was a great morning of teaching as we closed out the White Noise series.

The biggest takeaway from yesterday (and to my first point) is the heart of the people that call Rock City Church “home”. Time and time again they sign up to serve and give of themselves. I told you last week that I had 20+ people sign up to go to New Jersey and volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse to assist with Hurricane Sandy recovery. Yesterday we had another 25-30 people sign up. Most of those signing up are willing to go either Thanksgiving weekend or in early December. Most giving up their holiday break. This is significant to me because while most of us will be spending time shopping, eating and relaxing with friends, these 50 volunteers have offered to do a selfless act. Remarkable.

Next week we kick off a new series. There is a new momentum which is building and I can’t wait to see how God will continue to use this Church to reach the city of Columbus and beyond. That’s Rock City.
