That Place…

RELATIONSHIP_STATUS_FEB_WEB-copy5Let’s be honest, relationships are complicated. Shoot, LIFE is complicated. We all walk through seasons that can be very dark. Maybe you’re walking through one right now. Maybe it looks like you’re in the desert and there is no escape. You’re just looking for one gasp of fresh air. It could be your marriage, your health, your family, your job, no matter what it is, you’re looking for some hope.

Yesterday we launched the “Relationship Status” series with two people that know exactly how that season feels. Rock City Church had the absolute blessing of hosting Justin and Trisha Davis for all three of our worship experiences yesterday morning. They are the authors of the recently released  (and very powerful) book “Beyond Ordinary.” I love this couple. Those aren’t just words. I genuinely love this incredible couple on so many levels. They are who they appear to be and I’m honored to call them friends. The last 48 hours were so life-giving to my wife and I. Our lives are richer today, no question about it.

While books and speaking tours are impressive, what impresses me more than anything is the courage that this couple has. Yesterday I watched 2 people that walked through a very, very dark season stand in front of approximately 1000 people and invite them into that season. They went to “that place” in their marriage that many would never share. They do so because they have a passion for seeing marriages and relationships renewed, restored and mentored. They share their story so others will see that God can be found in the desert as much as He can be found on the mountain.

The lesson for all of us is that God can not only restore the broken parts of our lives, but launch an entire platform and ministry from them as well. It may not feel like it today, but this season you are in could be the very thing that will help others avoid those places in the future. This time of testing for you could be what God uses to inspire others in the future. If you’re in that place, don’t give up. If you’re in that place, know that a day will come when your moments there will be what lifts another when they are there too.

To Justin and Trisha – Heather and I sure love you guys. Thank you for pouring into us. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for investing in Rock City Church. This day will resonate for a long, long time.
