I Won’t Do It.

August 22, 2011 — 2 Comments

You know how a lot of parents go on facebook, twitter and blogs and talk about their kids starting school for another year? Well, I won’t do it. I just won’t.

I won’t talk about how this is the last year all 3 will be in the same school.

I won’t reflect on how my son went from kindergartner to the 5th grade big man on campus.

I won’t repost “Let That Pony Run” and I won’t repost “The White Horse

I won’t reflect on what a great summer it was and what a great age our kids are.

I won’t talk about how much I’ll miss the daily knock at the door of our 6 yr old for a welcomed interruption.

I won’t talk about how proud I am of WHO they are vs. their accomplishments.

I won’t go into how much credit their mom deserves for WHO they are.

Tomorrow morning I’ll take the girls hands and the 5 of us will walk to school together.

I’ll take a moment after they disappear into a sea of children to pray over their school, their teachers and their circle of influence.

I’ll pray that they’ll defend the one who needs it, love the ones who crave it and befriend those others won’t.

I’ll pray they respect the authority while leading others to do the same.

I’ll thank God that he has entrusted these three incredible children into our care.

But I won’t do a big post about another school year.

I just won’t do it.

A Special Season

Yesterday all of the families of the Red Barons got together one last time to have an end-of-year celebration. It was an opportunity to recognize and celebrate a back-to-back championship and the accomplishments of the team. Each player had a moment with the coach where he talked about their individual accomplishments as well. The team vs opponent statics told a story of a very dominant summer of baseball. For example, the team ERA for the Red Barons was around 4.00. Opponents ERA…14.00.

I’ve covered it HERE, HERE and HERE, but “the boy” had a very special season too. Check out these stats and remember….he is 10 years old.

Pitching – 23 Innings Pitched, 3.91 ERA, 41 Strikeouts, 18 Walks, 1.26 WHIP.

Hitting – .596 Batting Average, 26 RBI, 10 Walks, 6 Strikeouts, .667 On Base %, .681 Slugging % in 57 plate appearances.

He started each game of the end of season tournament at pitcher. His line from the tournament:

7 Innings Pitched – 11 strikeouts – 1 walk – 1 earned run in 3 games.

Now a word or two from his coach…

Leaving this team and this group of coaches/kids would be one of the tougher parts of potentially moving. I mean that in all sincerity. They have been a blessing to our family on many levels. I am most thankful that his coaches gave him the gift of the love of the game again. That is something I cannot repay.

Great job 50. It really was a special season.

How To Pray For Us

August 4, 2011 — Leave a comment

I have been so honored by the words, emails, text and conversations with so many people throughout this process and especially after my post yesterday. The response has been so special. For that I thank you all. Given the unique circumstances and the need to keep the details private for now, I am often asked “what should we pray for” or “how would you like us to pray”. Jokingly, more than a few folks have offered to pray for what THEY want. The best thing I can tell you all is this….

Pray what we’re praying.

Pray for Gods will.

Since that day in April and all the way through this weekend, my wife and I will be praying for Gods will. Nothing more, nothing less. While we many have hopes, dreams and visions of what could be, if they don’t match His will for our lives and our family, then they are just dreams. We know He will make His will clear if we listen, trust, pray and be patient.

I so appreciate your prayers and your willingness to partner in this journey even if you don’t know the details. Thank you for carrying the mat with us. Thank you for what each and every one of you mean to us.

Stay tuned……

When last I posted, “the boy” and his team (The Red Barons) were headed to the end of season tournament on Friday night. They were scheduled to play 2 games (assuming they won) and the Championship game was set for Sunday. They quickly took care of the lower seed team in the first game (15-0) and then the rains came….

So they arrived at the fields this morning knowing in order to get to the Championship game, they would need to beat the only team that had beaten them all year, the Upper Arlington Bears. That loss came in a bottom of the 6th heartbreaker at the mid-season tournament. It cost the Red Barons that crown. They would later meet again with the Barons winning 14-4.
