Laws of the Lighthouse

December 27, 2011 — Leave a comment

As we approach the start of a new year, I thought it would be a good time to post this list from Max Lucado. I read it several years ago and try to revisit it often. Here are his “Laws of the Lighthouse”.

– Love God more than you fear hell.
– Once a week, let a child take you on a walk.
– Make major decisions in a cemetery.
– When no one is watching, live as if someone is.
– Succeed at home first.
– Don’t spend tomorrow’s money today.
– Pray twice as much as you fret.
– Listen twice as much as you speak.
– Only harbor a grudge when God does.
– Never outgrow your love of sunsets.
– Treat people like angels; you will meet some and help make some.
– ‘Tis wiser to err on the side of generosity than on the side of scrutiny.
– God has forgiven you; you’d be wise to do the same.
– When you can’t trace God’s hand, trust his heart.
– Toot your own horn and the notes will be flat.
– Don’t feel guilty for God’s goodness.
– The book of life is lived in chapters, so know your page number.
– Never let the important be the victim of the trivial.
– Live your liturgy.

Sermon Notes 12.24.2011

What an incredible Christmas Eve service at Rock City Church. Since the church just launched in April, this was the first ever Christmas Eve service and they didn’t disappoint. Record numbers in both services knew right away they were at Rock City when it began with the Worship Team singing “Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls. It was brilliant. The rest of the service was on par with a typical Sunday at Rock City. So glad we were there to experience it all.

Series: Home For Christmas

Scripture: Isaiah 9:6

Title: Prince of Peace

The essence of the Christmas story is Emmanuel, God with us.

The reason Jesus came was to make a way for us to come back home.

This is our shared dilemma: We are all natural wanderers.

The moment we walk away from God our propensity for sin is limitless.

We see two responses modeled by the son in the story of Luke 15:

  1. He recognized and admitted that he was wrong
  2. He started his way back home.

Jesus came to make peace between us and God.

Several years ago we realized that our annual spend for the mailing of a Christmas card had gotten a bit out of control. Couple that with the realization of how Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio needed so little to do so much for people in this city. We decided as a family to redirect our funds from the Christmas cards to Faith Mission. Thanks to Facebook, twitter and email, we are still able to share our card with you all.

Merry Christmas from the Conrad Family. May this season bring peace, joy and a new year of opportunities. God bless.
