Quotable

March 4, 2008 — 6 Comments

“Today there are thousands of people sitting in church pews every Sunday who look like they’ve got it together on the outside but are broken on the inside. People who want to grab a Christian brother or sister by the shoulders and shout, “I’m not together! I’m in trouble! My relationship with God is terrible! I feel like a fake!” Instead, they pass out another bulletin or stack another chair, afraid to reach out, because everyone else looks like they have life’s problems whipped”

Food for thought

Your standard of beauty is your spouse” – Mark Driscoll

Hear the entire sermon (HERE)

Wow, it is EARLY. Due to an unanticipated stop to meet up with a friend last night in Cincinnati, I arrived in Kentucky roughly around 2am. I have no complaints though. There is no doubt in my mind that it was a divine moment. The friend I met up with is going through a storm. A big storm. He’s a guy that probably knows as much about me as my wife does. He’s one of those few friends that we let in to our very core. One that we let see what we keep others guarded from. I know the same about him. So when he is in the grips of a storm, how can you resist not taking whatever time necessary?

I got back in the car, and this song came on the CD player. I must have listened to it 30 times over and over. No song could have captured my thoughts and prayers at that moment any better. Lyric after lyric I was breathing these words…”Lord I lift my friend to you”

Prayer for a Friend” by Casting Crowns from the CD “Altar and the Door

Walking the Walk…

footsteps.jpgYou can say what you think, but you will live what you believe” – Mark Hall

I witnessed something today that still has me reflecting on it. Simply put, I witnessed two friends “walking the walk” in their lives. They probably don’t know I noticed. My guess is that they are not even aware that anyone noticed. I would also bet the house that they are not even thinking “I sure hope someone saw that”. It’s not in their nature. It’s not their style. It is how they live what they believe.

What I saw today on two separate occasions is two different men that I consider brothers in Christ living out what they say. I know that at the very core of these men, they care deeply about other people. I have had the privilege the past few years of hearing them talk about it and sharing conversations regarding it. Today, I witness words in motion. I witnessed actions that speak louder than words.

I write this because we never know who is watching. We may never know the impact of a life lived by the ones that we don’t even know are viewing it. What strikes me is that the most meaningful part of this whole story is that the two guys I mention probably don’t care about who was watching. They were too busy caring about what they were doing. Which set an example no words could explain.

Thanks guys….

What's On Your Mind?

November 20, 2007 — 2 Comments

thinker.jpgConfession time. I can’t get this off my mind. Maybe it’s time I get it off my chest as well. No matter where I look, no matter what I read, hear, see or do there is an overwhelming message that is chasing me. It all boils down to two words: Kingdom Minded. The books I have been reading, the sermon series the past two weeks and the music I have been hearing all seem to be screaming the same message….Kingdom Minded.

Maybe it is the next step in the journey for me. Maybe God is calling me to rethink some things that have become comfortable, safe and bland in my walk. It’s like I have taken this huge filter of two words and I’m running everything I do from the moment I wake, till I go to bed at night through it.

When I wake up in the morning, do I think, pray and anticipate what I can and will do to advance God’s kingdom that day?

When I go to bed at night, do I reflect on what I might have missed, where I can grow and pray for the kingdom opportunites the next day?

Do my words, actions and thoughts reflect the Kingdom?

Will anyone think of the kingdom from something they saw in my life?

How about worship?

Do my kids see a father that reflects the kingdom and understand the importance it must have in their lives?

It has been on my mind and hopefully is starting to show in my actions. I’m tired of being simple minded. It’s time to be kingdom minded!

“but seek FIRST his KINGDOM and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33 (emphasis mine)
