“…See I will refine and test them, for what else can I do…” (Jeremiah 9:7)

I have recommended this song to a few people throughout the past week or so. Upon recommending it, I realized that I needed to hear it again as well. I have always appreciated the honesty that Jennifer Knapp presents in this song. It is probably safe to say that at some point we all feel this way.

In the movie “Bruce Almighty”, Jim Carrey is given ultimate power. However, one of the rules is that he cannot mess with free will. In one of his discussions with God (Morgan Freeman), he says “how can I make someone love me without messing with free will?”. To which God replies “If you can figure it out, let me know. I have been trying for years”. Our walk would be so easy if it wasn’t for that darn free will. As Jennifer Knapp sings “Lord, my will has deceived me, please come and free me, come rescue this child”

Until we breathe our last, we will fight the battle that Paul outlined in Romans 7:14-20. The tug of war is what will continue to refine us into the image and the form of our refiner. It will at times be uncomfortable, but the end result is a priceless work of art which is unique to each one. To my friends that I shared this song with, I thought this one was dedicated to you. I believe it might have been meant for me as well. For that I thank you.
