“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6)
How many times have I read and heard that familiar verse? Especially at this time of year. Yet tonight I heard the last 3 words in very real and personal way. “Prince of Peace”
A few of my many stressors right now have been well documented in this blog. They have been building and growing like a snowball grows to the size of a snowman. To be honest, I am about to crack. I admitted it to my wife tonight at dinner; “I have never been under more stress then I am right now”. She was kind enough to say that it doesn’t show. I wish my internal self could hold it together as well as the outside appears to be doing.
Then I heard it. The words from the song on the radio simply said “Hold me Jesus, ’cause I’m shakin’ like a leaf. You have been my King of Glory, won’t you be my Prince of Peace”. If I have ever needed a Prince of PEACE it’s right now. I need some rest. I need some refuge. Then I remember that all of those years ago, he came. He came in the form of a baby. He came to bring a peace in the midst of stress, a calm in the storm and a place for the weary to find strength.
From my family to yours, we wish each of you a Merry Christmas! As we approach the manger this year, may we do so with thankful hearts. Thankful to our “Prince of Peace”. Thankful for the grace and thankful for the sacrifice. May God bless each of you this Christmas season.
This time of year many people deal with stress. For me it’s spending any amount of time in a mall just a week before Christmas. Whatever the reason for stress you can be sure I’ll be praying for you.
Thanks Brian. Appreciate your following of the blog. Merry Christmas to you!
Oh my gosh–I just heard this song on the radio in my car as I was trying to make a list of what is left to do for Christmas…and then I turned on computer and read your post! He does have a way of getting our attention!
My house is a disaster, my list is long, my kids are wired… definitely a good reminder to step back and put the focus back on Jesus. It’s not about me–not about whether the house is perfect (or if I can even find the floor), not about how the house is decorated (or if the tree is the only thing that is up this year), and not about all the “little” things that truly are little things.
Have a wonderfully merry Christmas!
I LOVE that song. 🙂 Thanks for this post.
Have a peaceful and blessed Christmas
