So I am mired in a major case of “bloggers block” right now. I’m actually wondering if I will come out of this one or just un-plug from “the matrix” completely. Since I can’t think of anything better to write, here are just some random notes from the weekend:
1. Finished “Chasing Daylight” and pulled “Where is God When it Hurts” by Philip Yancey from the book shelf. What scares me a bit is that I (and this will sound weird) lean on God’s direction for what I am going to read next. It’s always seemed so appropriate when I do that. I had “Prayer” by the same author in my hand and put it back in favor of this one. I don’t know why, or if I am looking forward to finding out why I need to read this one right now.
2. While “Home” is my current song of choice, I found one that is racing up my favorite song chart pretty quickly. I heard it for the first time while watching “The Wild” with the kiddies over the weekend. The group “Lifehouse” has a song in that movie called “Good enough” that I can’t get enough of. If you’re interested, cruise on over to iTunes and drop the 99 cents. It’s worth it. Great song. Lyrics are here
3. My main man “Psycho T” (Tyler Hansbrough) from THE UNC Tarheels took a monster shot to the grill over the weekend. Totally uncalled for. I was actually at small group(checking the score on my Treo) when it all went down. When I read the wrap-up and saw the pictures, I was willing to give the hated Dukies the benefit of the doubt. Then I caught the video today and I gotta say that it looked intentional to me. I have one message for Duke..”want to play with fire scarecrow?”
4. For those that have been dying to find out, my sons “Lightning McQueen” Awana Grand Prix car ran pretty well. He placed 2nd in the first heat and 1st in the 2nd heat. It wasn’t good enough to advance to the elite 8, but he had a great time and was proud of his car.
5. Last but not least, I have been officially replaced by Lebron James. My son had a project for school over the weekend where he had to put together a poster board dedicated to his “Hero”. The directions read “it can be a FAMILY member, Sports hero, etc”. No matter how much emphasis I put on the first part of that sentence, he still chose number 23. I guess I take something away from that knowing that I’m the one that introduced the two of them in the first place.
Sorry to hear of your “bloggers block”. I found your blog through David Neal’s and have been enjoying it – always good to read and be encouraged by others.
We’ve done AWANA grand prix as well. Something I don’t think we’ll ever forget (blogged about it here http://blog.eriklane.com/archive/2005/03/01/569.aspx). LeBron, huh? At least you guys enjoy him together. I’m not sure who my son would put down as his hero but I have to think that Michael Young or A-Rod are up there.
God Bless!
Sounds like you have plenty to write about. Also I must say thank you for pointing me in the direction of another great Lifehouse song. I love these guys. I am buying up all their Cds. Check my top 5 of the week and you will most likely find them in the 1 or 2 slot. I am getting “Good Enough as we speak. Thanks man and have a good one.
Erik – Welcome my friend! Thanks for the kind words. Any friend of Dave Neal’s is a friend of mine! The bloggers block will lift one of these days. I think God is using this time to teach me some things that are long overdue. Bloggin about them alone will give me plenty of material! Thanks for faithfully following!
Superman – You got it brother. Hope you like it. Can’t say for sure what it is about that song, but something clicked and I really like it. Lifehouse is a personal favorite of mine as well. I owed you for Daughtry anyway!
Maybe the block is a nudge to give up blogging for Lent…. but I’m not sure the faithful will agree. It might hurt the followers more than you.
Here’s to hoping the Tar Heels get another shot at Duke this season. It’s probably going to be a little chippy.
