I recently heard a sermon by Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle on the subject of humility. You can find him on iTunes by searching for Mars Hill Church Seattle. I am taking some time to evaluate and process what I heard and how to apply it. More to come on that…
Here are “10 Recommendations to Clothe Yourself in Humility”
1. Follow the truth wherever it leads.
2. Invite and pursue correction and council.
3. Learn from everyone including your critics
4. Repent quickly and thoroughly.
5. Celebrate Gods work in other Christians lives.
6. Cultivate a spirit of thankfulness.
7 . Listen to scripture more than yourself.
8. Exalt the name of Jesus in whatever you do.
9. Laugh.
10. Sleep.
Number 10 hammered me. Mark said “Proud people don’t sleep” and “Humble people sleep, proud people worry.”
Thanks for the post.
“Invite and pursue correction and counsel.” Wise words indeed.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Humble yourself in the sight of the LORD and He will exalt you at the proper time. He desires a contrite spirit. Don’t think too highly of yourself, but consider others as more important than you. God hates the proud but gives grace to the humble.
So many good words we need to heed. Thanks for the reminder.
Sleep hammered me too. I really never thought of worry as a proud issue, but if we don’t give it to God then I guess we think we can fix it and be in control. Thanks for the post.

“God hates the proud”? Then he’s a judgemental old man.
One might add;
11. Read “The God Delusion” by Richard Dawkins.
Great post, helpful list!
Wow. Simple. Clear. Difficult. Painful. Biblical. True.
That’s gonna take some meditating… to sink in. Nice Post.
I have seen links here but finally stopped by. Glad I did. Take care
