A few weeks ago, I stumbled across the following quote by the great philosopher “unknown”.

“Be kinder than necessary for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.” -Unknown

Many hours on the beach last week had me looking at life, challenges, struggles, joys, pains and of course….battles.  I guess that is the driver for this post. Those hours in the sun with the waves crashing on the shore had me take a good hard look at some things I would normally not take the time to look at. They are chains to baggage that I carry around. My battle(s) usually takes up residence on my shoulders and just stays there. I know it’s there but the more I act like it doesn’t exist, the heavier it gets.

I’m not a betting man, but I would guess that just about every person reading this post has a battle too. Maybe others know about it, maybe they don’t. Regardless of it’s start there seems to be no end. It’s like the thorn that Paul referred to. You can’t seem to win your battle no matter how hard you’ve prayed. You can’t get rid of it. You can’t beat it. You can’t pray hard enough, cry enough, stress enough. No matter how you’ve tried, wrestled or discerned, the battle just won’t end.

I wish I had an answer for you today. Maybe I’m looking to you for the answers. Maybe I’m just putting it on the web and hoping that doing so will help me fight mine another day. To those that read this today and are fighting your battle, know you’re not alone. I’m fighting one too. Maybe, just maybe, knowing you’re not the only one fighting a battle will help us all win the war….
