Sunday Morning Reset

There a times in your life when you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that you’ve turned a corner on something. Sunday morning, I think I turned the corner on several levels. While I am certainly no where near Eric Clapton on the guitar, it is getting better. I’ve still got a LOOOONG way to go, but it is nice to see and hear some improvement. It makes it easy to keep working and trying when it is something you’re passionate about.

Speaking of being passionate about something, as I stated in my last post, God worked on my heart BIG TIME last week on being passionate about worship. The lesson was to stop approaching this like a concert, a performance or just a couple of guys playing some music for the entertainment value of others. Worship is serious business and in my heart it is time to approach it that way. Check this from Revelation 4:9-11

9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

I was rocked by the reality that each Sunday (even prior to helping with the Worship Team), I approach Sunday morning worship as a “couple of quick songs” prior to the lesson. There was no heart involved. There was very little head even involved. My thoughts were about me and my week, my issues, my challenges and what I had to do that afternoon. It is only fitting that one of the songs we sang yesterday was “From The Inside Out” by Hillsong (as requested by “the boy”). All week long, God was changing my heart and my approach to worship from the inside out.

Set List:

Almighty God – Tim Hughes

From The Inside Out – Hillsong

Everlasting God – Brenton Brown

Revelation Song – Jennie Lee Riddle

Now only if we can get a mic in front of you.

I might be getting to a place where I’m ready to ask for one of those crazy things. I’m pretty sure you don’t want to hear me singing though.
