I recently received a copy of the book “Average Joe: God’s Extraordinary Calling to Ordinary Men” by Troy Meeder to read and review. A very quick read, Average Joe is a reminder that each of us have the opportunity to do extraordinary things. Troy Meeder does a nice job of telling personal stories from his life as analogies for each chapter. It really felt like reading a personal blog for someone you would stumble across on the web. While not any huge revelations, this is a great reminder of several important things like friendship, mentoring and the wisdom we gain from others.

One chapter in particular – “The Gardener” – reminded me of important people that God has placed in my own life to train me, teach me and mold me. Overall I thought “Average Joe” was a pretty good read. For a guy like me, with a short attention span, the quick chapters were excellent. Meeder does a good job of delivering his point through a quick story or two from his own life. Almost like short sermons, each chapter will remind you that each of us have extraordinary opportunities. Even if we’re “Average Joe’s”.

I give “Average Joe” a 3 out of 5
