Several months ago I signed up for the Emerald City Half Marathon. Within about 2 weeks I was emailing the director for ways that I could back out. He was kind enough to allow me to apply the money towards the Cap City Half Marathon in May. Thanks to various injuries and my Vocal Chord Dysfunction, I was done. Period. I set a goal to run 20 miles a week and kept that up until the past 10 days or so. Life happened. Then, in the midst of it all, our friend told us that my packet for tomorrows Half Marathon was there when she picked up my wife’s.

Decision time…

I could just go watch tomorrow. I could give you a million and one reasons why that is what I SHOULD do. If When I finish the race tomorrow I will let them know to cancel my May race (because that is the honest thing to do). So why do this? Why would I go out there having not run more than 6 miles on the same day since the half marathon we did in May?

Because I don’t need easy. I just need possible.

Tomorrows 13.1 miles isn’t about the race. It’s not about a medal or the free shirt. It’s not about my finish time or my average pace. I feel like I need tomorrow because it is an example of the race I find myself in right now (without a job). I need to finish tomorrow because I need to remind myself that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. I need to finish tomorrow to remind myself that there is a fighter inside me that needs to be awaken. I need tomorrow to remember that no matter how hard it will get, no matter how much I’ll want to quit, it will end and will be worth every mile.

Tomorrow is my 18th Half Marathon. In so many ways, it might be better than the first. I’m thankful for this opportunity to do business with God for a few hours. It will be moments without distractions. It will be moments of brokenness. It will be moments where “I” am out of the way. Lord Jesus speak to me tomorrow.

Because I don’t need easy. I just need possible.
