VSP-953-hand-held-shower-headI went to put a sweatshirt on the other day and did what I do 50% of the time that I go into our closet. I flipped the light switch, looked into the dark closet, reached over my head and tapped on the florescent light above the door three times. Soon the entire closet was filled with light where once there was darkness. It’s quirky, but it’s ours.

Our shower head drips if you don’t hold it in the 12 o’clock position for 10 seconds after the shower.

Our garage door doesn’t go down automatically in cold temperatures. You have to frantically flick the on/off switch until the sensor light comes back on. I wish I was kidding that I even know that.

In colder temperatures, our bathroom door sticks. You have to lift up on the door knob when closing and it glides just fine.

All of these little quirks in a house that is about 20 years old.

But it’s ours.

My car isn’t any different.

The digital radio won’t tune one station at a time. You have to go through one of 3 present buttons to get the station you want.

The right fender occasionally pops out of place so you have to give it good hip check back into place.

If you’re not careful, when you first put it in reverse, it will buck like a bronco. You have to hold the brake like you’re landing a 747 until it settles in.

It’s quirky, but it’s ours.

How about this body I live in?

If I run, workout or exert too much force, my left knee doesn’t like to go up stairs. It just quits.

My right ankle pops if I sit down and kick it into the air.

I have no gel left between L4 and L5 in my lower back. One day they will fuse automatically.

I’ve covered it before, but I am wicked colorblind.

My torso belongs on someone 6 feet tall and my legs belong on someone about 5’8″.

I am unhealthy fear of dentists and bare feet.

I hate chicken pot pie, steak-ums, fish and bare feet on the dashboard of my car.

My body is quirky but it’s mine.

I think you get the picture. If you don’t, pause for a minute and think about your home, your car and your body. There are things that are quirky but they make them yours. No one else can probably claim that they do these things. They are unique and they are what makes them yours and you….you.

10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

-Ephesians 2:10

I passed that verse along to someone the other day and it’s been marinating with me ever since. The word “workmanship” paints a very cool picture. We’re not simply the next droid down the assembly line. We are uniquely crafted. We are His handy work. We are not a copy.

Built specifically for “good works.” I am challenged by that. What work am I doing and is it good? Am I using the way I was crafted for works that are good?

Lastly, all of this was “prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Our journeys are already chosen. Our good works will be intentionally placed before us. We were built for the sole purpose of walking in them.

That thing that makes you unique, it’s His workmanship.

What you do that others can’t, it’s built for good works.

What will you do today to walk in them?
