Every baseball game that “the boy” pitched, I offered tips and tricks. Nursing him through inning by inning. I offered encouragement, one pitch after another. Once, when he was little, someone gave them mini-candy bars after the game. He took two, walked over to us…and promptly gave one to his mom.
There are days when a boy just needs his mom. Period.
I woke up this morning to one of those days. I won’t go into details. I’m going to assume that most everyone reading this knows the kind of day when you just need your mom. You need to hear her voice and the words that tell you “It’s gonna be alright.”
Dad can tell you.
Your wife can tell you.
Your coach and friends can all tell you.
It never sounds better or more true than when it comes from mom.
My mom passed away in March of 2010. I rejoice in her place in Heaven but gotta be honest and say, that there are days when a boy needs his mom. There are moments when a phone call or text of encouragement and understanding can change the outlook of a day. Today is one of those days.
Moms, don’t ever underestimate the power of your words of encouragement.
Pour them into your kids early and often.
If you’re reading this and haven’t called home lately, and still can, take the time to do so.
If you’re reading this and your mom is in the presence of Jesus, rejoice and thank the Lord for the blessing that was your mom. If you know, you know.
I know.
Save a place for me mom. I’ll be home soon.
