Years ago our family was in our happy place in Outer Banks, North Carolina. One night, when the wind was right we took some cheap kites and went down to the beach at sunset. The image above doesn’t tell the full story but images never really do. It was “for the gram.”
We were watching a kite….on an invisible string.
Years have passed. I’ve gained a TON of weight since that picture. That little girl and I are in a race to see who can get the most tattoos now. She’s my dreamer. She’s the one that still sees that invisible string and the kite attached to it.
Maybe it was just for us. Maybe it was just so we could look back on that picture and see the possibilities far beyond what you see when you look at it.
No matter what we weigh or how many tattoos we have.
At the end of that invisible string (to you anyway) is what happens when we live unscripted. When we let our dreams fly. When we let the Lord and all his power take a vision and put it into the sky.
We saw it. You can’t.
I will go to my grave one day knowing that I saw that kite fly. I know that something I put into the world got wings, caught a wind and found it’s purpose. My baby girl does too. Maybe it’s not for us to get the credit. Maybe both of our purpose here is to just put the kite out there for others to see.
Not the string.
Not the idea.
Just the kite.
If you’re holding onto an invisible string, keep holding it. Keep giving it room to sail so that others can see. Know that my baby girl and I are doing the same.
The kite is what the world will see.
Not the invisible string.
We see you. God sees you. You are loved and appreciated.
The string might be invisible in pictures. You are not.
