They asked me to write an “Owners’ Letter” for when we leave this house. Below is my best effort to do just that.
We found this home by accident. It wasn’t on our list and was certainly out of our price range the day we visited a dozen potential future homes. It was the last one that day with our Realtor. As soon as we walked through that front door, we knew. My wife, pregnant with our third child, and I walked through, and we just knew. With 2 children at home and one on the way, we just knew it. This was the one.
I will never forget standing in that loft, looking down at the living room space and saying, “God, I don’t know how we’ll do this, but if it’s your will, we will use it for your glory.”
For twenty-one years, we have used this house for His glory.
I could tell so many stories of how we honored that commitment, and God honored ours.
I could tell stories of swing sets and walks to the elementary school. I can tell you about the dogs that were just as much family as our children. How they ran around in the fenced in yard, but eventually passed away.
I could tell you stories of watching our kids grow, find their giftedness. For our family, it was sports. We spent our days, nights, and weekends at practices, games, and tournaments. We chose our kids over upgrading to granite counter tops, new cabinets, carpet, or furniture. We chose them. Every time, we chose them.
I could tell stories of young men knocking on our front door with a homecoming sign or prom sign. I can tell you stories of how this home was our refuge during COVID and turning our basement into a restaurant, dance hall, and rec space.
I could tell you stories of extended family, making this the home where we would gather. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, and anniversaries. If that island in the kitchen could speak, it would tell you about so many gatherings, prayers, conversations, and laughter.
Always laughter.
I could tell you about launching each child into college and the world. I could share prayers we prayed for each one and how they always found their way back home. I might even tell you how they cried as they packed up their rooms and went through their “stuff” as we decided to downsize.
There is so much I could tell you. I guess the one thing I want to tell you is that I made a request the day we walked through this home, and God answered it. Over and over and over again he answered it.
As I close this letter, I am praying the same for you. We don’t know each other, and we may never get that chance. Just know that if you make that request, trust his timing and hand, He will do the same for you.
We hope you love this home.
We loved this home.
We hope if you ever sell this home, you can write the letter that we are writing to you today.
May your memories be wonderful and your stories filled with stories of this house.

*If you are looking for a home in Britton Farms and Hilliard Schools, our home is currently on the market and you will get this letter if you purchase it.
