We started a new series yesterday at Rock City Church called “Why Worry”. If the first Sunday of this series is any indication, it is going to be another amazing time of self inspection and challenge. Great service yesterday. Before we get into the notes, the worship team absolutely BROUGHT it yesterday. They sang one of my personal favorites, “Forever Reign” and “Arms Open Wide” by Hillsong. Great morning of worship and teaching.

Sermon: Turning Worry Into Wonder

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34

  • Worry is a sin issue
  • Worry is a control issue
  • Worry is a focus issue
  • Anxiety, which is a close relative of worry, is the direct result of the fruitless search for life’s answers using our limited human minds.
  • In our spirit is where God speaks.
  • Worry is trusting in my own abilities and strength, rather than trusting in God.
  • Worry in this finite and temporary life leads to hopelessness.
  • Wonder in an infinite and Spirit God leads to supernatural peace.
  • To live a life of peace and faith, I must turn my worry into wonder.
My personal scribbles:
  • Worry is the opposite of faith.
  • Worry is the sin of distrusting the promises and the power of God.
  • The focus of my life determines the outcome of my life.
  • I am a spirit
  • I have a soul
  • I live in a body
What do you worry about?

Team Vedaste Update

We’re about halfway through our 30 days to sell 70 Hello Somebody watches and we need your help. My son and I accepted the opportunity about 2 weeks ago to do our part to support Vedaste Iyamwremye in Rwanda. By selling 70 watches, Vedaste will have food and education for an entire year. Such a small sacrifice for you and I and huge thing for Vedaste. The watches look great and make a great gift. I’m also thrilled to announce that THEY NOW HAVE SMALLER LOGO WATCHES for the ladies or little ones.

We had a 30 day challenge so if you have considered ordering a watch ($25) now is the time to get those orders in. Once the 30 days are over, if we haven’t met our goal, Vedaste will be moved to another supporter. Let’s try to reach the goal before that happens. The key is this…

YOU MUST PUT THE NAME VEDASTE IYAMWREMYE in the “SELLER NOTES” section of the order.

If you would prefer, you can CONTACT ME directly and I will pool all of the orders into one.

You can also order directly (HERE)

Won’t you consider helping today? Thank you all in advance for helping this great cause!

One of my favorite parts of Sunday morning is the worship music. I don’t think I’m alone in that either. For many, the style of worship music can dictate and determine where they decide to attend. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity this week to preview a new release of worship music called “Revolution Worship Live”. It’s a collection of original praise and worship music recorded live. It is wonderful.

Under The Chuppah

I debated weighing in on this or not. I guess I can’t help it. I am not a fan of the Kardashian family. I don’t watch their shows. I ignore their drama. Yet this one, this “marriage”, just unsettles me. I wonder if we’ve gone too far. We elevate the oddest people to a place of “celebrity”. We treated her wedding like a royal wedding (Lady Diana..she is NOT). They make and spend more money than you and I will ever make combined and do nothing to advance the world or make it better. I couldn’t ignore this quote yesterday:

“Kim was hopeful that over time, the two of them would fall in love after they got married,”

I covered my thoughts on the first part of the book “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson last week (HERE). Tonight I finished the book and it was worth the time I spent reading it. Again, I am not an idol worshipper of Steve Jobs or Apple. I find it sad I even have to mention that. However I’ve noticed that it’s been fairly common for that to be mentioned with anyone that might say something about their appreciation for either of those two things. Silly..

There was nothing in the second half of the book that made me change much of my thoughts from the first half. I find Steve Jobs to have been an incredible contrast of many things within his own person. He had more money than you or I could imagine, yet that is not why he had insane drive to build Apple. At the end of the day, he was passionate about style and great products. It is what made him stick so closely to the complete control over software, hardware and the entire user experience. It drove him to create his own stores so that the people shopping in them would be helped by people that understood the difference. Remarkable.

I recently had the opportunity to review the latest CD from Brittany Hargest called “Love All The Way”. While this isn’t a CD I would typically be drawn to, it was actually pretty good. The infectious songs and driving beat kept me moving throughout the day as it played on my iTunes. Formerly of Jump5, this is Brittany’s first solo CD. It is one that I will add to my wife’s playlist for running. She’ll enjoy the beat and the catchy lyrics. You will too.

Here’s where you can find Brittany on the web:

With Christmas just around the corner, you may be looking for new gifts for the teens and young girls in your family. If so, check out “Love All The Way” by Brittany Hargest. It will be a great addition to your daughters music and deliver a strong message. I look for Brittany to continue to get stronger as a solo artist. For her first offering, this is a great start.
