Behind the Music

If you have followed this blog for any length of time, you have probably noted my admiration for, not only the group Mercyme, but more specifically, the song “Bring the Rain”. Here’s a little behind the scene clip from the guys at MM about the song.

It is confession week on my blog, no?

I heard a story over 8 years ago at college of a student that prayed with a group of friends that God would do something drastic (Bring The Rain) in his life to allow him to be closer to Him.

A week later he fell off a 3 story building in a “freak” accident and nearly died. Months later he was healed enough to tell his story, and how his faith has grown as a result.

Moving as that was, I have (and still) avoid the ‘Bring The Rain’ prayer. My faith is that weak. I know that basically says I don’t trust God to get me through it—even though I know he can and will.

I’m with you bro. I actually have this MP3 loaded on my TREO to keep it close and within listening distance. I love what Bart said about “not worshiping a God of superstition”. It is the ultimate test of faith though to say “Lord, I don’t know what this is about, I don’t know why I am going through this, but regardless, bring the rain. Ugh.

I try to remember that God actually pointed Job out to Satan. I think we often miss that part. Job 1:8 hauntingly states “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil”? He was actually inviting the rain into Job’s life because of his life.

I wonder if I have the faith that would actually cause the Lord to invite that into my life for His glory as well? Great response Mudpuppy.

Today Charlie is 3 years old. 3 years ago is when my faith had a “bring on the rain”… post partum depression. I was driving one day with tears streaming down my face for who knows what reason. Jo Dee Messina was playing on the radio, the song was “Bring on the Rain”. “So bring on the rain, no I’m not going to let me get me down” those lyrics spoke to my heart. I came home and started putting scripture throughout the house to fight the fight. So here we are three years later and the “rain” turned into a rainbow. I praise Him for the rain, because of that storm I have Charlie.

Amen Mary! It has been amazing to watch you and your faith grow through the rain. You were able to stand in the storm and came out the other side with a witness and testimony that are so strong. God bless you for sharing! Happy birthday to Charlie as well! 🙂

I’m with you guys. I don’t pray for God to let me have His best shot! I’m not that strong. However, some of the strongest people I know are the ones that have been through more than any human should have to endure. I’m immediately taken to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Guess you could say He was saying his “Bring the Rain” prayer; “Not my will, but yours…”

    Blessings,
    David.

I have written before about going through a divorce and that I felt my world shake because of it ,but God is showing me that he does indeed have a place in the rain for me to take refuge and if I look I can see what he is doing on my behalf as I’m walking through the rain. God brings the rain to bring him glory and sometimes that’s what it takes. I too don’t think I would ask for the rain but if he brings you to it he wil bring you through it.

David – Excellent point about the garden. I heard John Ortberg say once that in a survey most people responded that the time they were most actively spiritually, was the time that they were going through a storm.

Awesome Holly…”if he brings you to it, He will bring you through it.”

I’ve experienced too many profoundly terrible things in my life, yet, through those things I have come to know Jesus. I have hit rock bottom so many times throughout my life but to be where I am now, brought here by going through the storms…although I would have preferred to skip them…if that’s what it takes…bring the rain.

  15. Aaron

Rindy – Through your rain, you have blessed many. Your blog is a wonderful testimony to all that read it. I’m thankful that God brought you through it all stronger and as a testimony to him!
