It Doesn’t Take Much

IMG_9093A few weeks ago I posted an idea to share our annual family 5K around the neighborhood with anyone that would want to join us. Yesterday morning, 50 people arrived, brought canned goods and did just that. Together we shared a cold morning run/walk/bike and kicked off Thanksgiving Day. I am amazed how it really doesn’t take much.

Our mile signs were handmade.

We had no official clock, bibs or inflatable start/finish line.

The course had some snow on it in parts.

There were no t-shirts or awards for finishing.

But all of that was never the intent. This event was organized to save people the cost of running a 5K together as a family (the one we used to run would have cost us a total of $200). What happened was 50 people laughing, smiling and starting a tradition that I hope lasts for years to come. Our total cost for the event we estimate to be less than $20 (poster board, markers and water bottles). Yet the memories are priceless.

Thank you to all that joined us and made this first event one to remember!
