There’s something electric about a game-winning shot.
The clock winds down, the tension builds, and then swish.
The crowd erupts. Teammates rush the court. The hero of the moment gets lifted high.
We remember those moments. We replay them. We celebrate them.
But as powerful as they are, they point us to something even greater.
The Pressure We All Feel
In life, we all face our own “final seconds.”
Moments where the pressure is real—decisions to make, temptations to resist, burdens to carry, responsibilities that feel too heavy. And often, we place the weight of the shot on ourselves.
“If I don’t make this work…”
“If I fail here…”
“If I drop the ball…”
But the gospel tells a different story.
The Shot Has Already Been Taken
In the biggest moment of human history, Jesus stepped in and took the shot we could never make.
A perfect life.
A sacrificial death.
A victorious resurrection.
He didn’t just beat the buzzer—He defeated sin and death once and for all.
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 15:57
We don’t live trying to win the game.
We live anchored in the fact that the game has already been won.
Our Hero Isn’t the One on the Court
Athletes become heroes for a night.
Their highlights fade.
The moment passes.
But Jesus is the Hero who never fades, the Champion who never loses, the One whose victory changes everything about our past, our future, and our identity.
Because of Him:
- We don’t play from pressure but from peace.
- We don’t strive for victory but live in victory.
- We don’t carry the weight alone but trust the One who carried the cross for us.
Your Role in the Story
You may never hit a game-winner in front of thousands.
But you can walk each day confident that the true Hero is with you.
Jesus invites you not to take the final shot…
but to trust the One who already sealed the victory.
And that is a highlight worth replaying every single day.
