Misheard Lyrics

My work laptop died today. That would be the work laptop that has pretty much everything I need to do my job. In order to keep from going “postal”, I have found solitude in 80’s music all day (just ask the folks that follow me on twitter). That reminded me of this wonderful clip. Enjoy the weekend friends. I’ll be back Monday with a post called “What Hurts The Most” and it is NOT about my work laptop…. Continue reading Misheard Lyrics

Random 80's Item – Kangaroos

Have you been to the sporting goods store “Finish Line” recently? If so, you may have noted that their stock of “throwback” tennis shoes is beyond belief. It was while standing in this store that I found a pair of “Roos“. My mind instantly went back to the pocket on the side and spokesman for the shoes like Walter “sweetness” Payton and Clyde “The Glide” Drexler. While I personally never owned a pair of “Roos”, it doesn’t mean I didn’t want a pair. How about you? Did you have a pair of “Roos” and if so, what did you keep … Continue reading Random 80's Item – Kangaroos

Thanks Paul Blart!

“The Boy” and I went to see “Paul Blart Mall Cop” over the weekend. I won’t give a review one way or the other. I will tell you that in true Happy Madison Productions fashion, the soundtrack was filled with great 80’s tunes. As a matter of fact, I cannot get the song below out of my head. I’ve been singing it since the moment we walked of the theater.  Try getting this song out of your head today too… “Can’t Hold Back” by Survivor Continue reading Thanks Paul Blart!

An 80's Christmas

First off let me say that my commentary below takes nothing away from the heart of what this song was all about. Imagine what this world would be like if we all had the vision and heart of Bob Geldof. That being said…. See how many mullets you count was you watch this video. It’s got to be double digits. I included Phil Collins because it appeared that the “party in the back” was creeping over his shirt collar. I always thought it was cool that Sting got to sing a lyric with his name in it. Does Bono have … Continue reading An 80's Christmas

I Can Name That Tune In…

Sunday night, I had the priveledge of attending the Colts and Patriots game at Lucas Oil Stadium with several co-workers. The place was electric due to the Nationally Televised game and the rivalry between the two teams. As we were leaving the stadium, one of my co-workers turned on the radio which promptly played the last three notes of a Stryper song (it was a heavy metal station). Before I could even think about it, I blurted out: Wasn’t that “To Hell With the Devil” by Stryper? They both just looked at me like I was a freak. About two … Continue reading I Can Name That Tune In…

Happy Birthday MudPuppy!

One of the many benefits of Facebook is the “heads up” of a pending birthday for any “friends”. Well I’ve been looking forward to this one all week. Today (Wednesday) is my good buddy “The MudPuppy’s” birthday. I don’t know how or where we met up in the blogosphere, but I think we were linked in some former life as well. He’s on a sabbatical this summer from his blog but inspired my “A UNC Fan” site when he discovered the fun that is Tumblr. I searched and searched for the ultimate 80’s Youtube video for you buddy. This is … Continue reading Happy Birthday MudPuppy!

Yearbook Yourself

For years, people who have met me A.H. (after hair) have asked, begged and even bribed to see pictures of me with hair. Well, thanks to the fine folks at yearbookyourself.com, now you can. I gotta be honest and say that a few of these were “spot on” actual yearbook pictures. Below are a few that cracked me up. Let the commenting and ridicule begin… Thanks to my buddy Joel at CECWorship for the link as well. Continue reading Yearbook Yourself

Quotable:

The other day we were driving with the kiddies in the car. The soundtrack of the moment was 80’s music (I’ll give you one guess who picked that..and it wasn’t Heather). This song came on. While I was having flashbacks to the days of my “sweet mullet“, I did note the chorus. Inspiration in the most unlikely of places…. “Now I believe there comes a time when everything just falls in line We live and learn from our mistakes The deepest cuts are healed by faith” – Pat Benatar (All Fired Up) Continue reading Quotable:

Four For Friday

It’s that time again! Due to the popularity of a post earlier this week called “True” which featured some classic 80’s music, guess what this weeks Four For Friday is? You got it. Here are four random as usual tunes for this week. Big shout out to Mudpuppy,  JK and Rindy for their confessions of 80’s music lyric memorization syndrome too! 1. “We are the World” by USA for Africa – Heather asked this the other day and I had to admit to it. Did anyone else do “Hands Across America“? C’mon..you can admit it. I did! I stood by … Continue reading Four For Friday

True

A few weeks ago the family and I were on a road trip. The 80’s station on Sirius radio was the music of the moment and prompted the following discussion: Me: “with a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue” what do you think he meant by that? (Through the radio comes the exact lyric I just quoted) Heather: “You’re a freak”. You see I have this sickness. Some people can memorize scripture. Others know history. I have this crazy ability to remember lyrics. Particularly from the 80’s. I can’t tell you what a congruent triangle is … Continue reading True

Valentines Day 80’s Style

Been really stuck in the 80’s the past few weeks. This happens often you know. With Valentines Day just around the corner, I am reminded of two of the greatest songs to come out of the 80’s. The song below and “If You Leave” by OMD are forever cemented in my Top 10 songs of all time. Get out the yearbooks and let’s flashback to the summer of 1988 with a little Breathe “Hands to Heaven” shall we? Continue reading Valentines Day 80’s Style

80’s Wisdom

Dear Mr. Vernon: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you’re crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club. 80's Wisdom

After listening to the song in the post below several times, I hit the satellite radio to re-live some 80’s memories. Talk about memory lane. The lyric below struck me as interesting and makes for today’s “Wisdom from the 80’s”. “I can promise you tomorrow, but I can’t buy back yesterday” – Bon Jovi Continue reading 80's Wisdom

My Bucket List

There has been much talk about the movie “The Bucket List” (which I have not seen yet). I don’t really have a Bucket List, but if I did, I think the number one item would be this: To break up a parade by jumping on a float and singing “Twist and Shout” ala Ferris Bueller. If nothing else, I would at least like to be a part of the dance crew on the steps. The only condition is that it would need to include TBDBITL. Continue reading My Bucket List

Name that tune

The feedback to my 80’s time killer was fun (online and off-line). Most often heard and read was “if I would have heard the song beforehand, I would have known more of them”. Here’s your shot. Below is one of the greatest songs of all time (in my humble opinion). It comes from one of the greatest movies of all time. It also, happens to be the movie of which I gained my nickname. Oops….I’ve probably said to much. I’m looking for the following: 1. The name of the song 2. The group that sang it 3. The movie it … Continue reading Name that tune

Time Killer Wednesday

I have not posted anything 80’s lately. I had to get my fix, so I hit this 80’s music quiz tonight. If you’re looking to kill a little time today, why not moon walk over to The 80’s Lyrics Quiz and see how you do. I am both saddened and amazed that I did relatively well. Still couldn’t tell you who won the war of 18-whatever…but I know my 80’s lyrics! Here’s my score: Would you believe I missed the lyrics to a certain Peter Gabriel song from a certain movie that is one of my all time favorites? Let … Continue reading Time Killer Wednesday

80's Wisdom

“There’s a plate of homemade wishes on the kitchen window sill and 8 is enough to fill our lives with love” I had Adam Rich hair growing up. I wanted Grant Goodeve hair, but was blessed with a bowl cut like Adam Rich. That was before the “sweet mullet”. Check the clip too. Is that Dad giving “David” a cold brew while he’s working on his van? What’s up with that? Continue reading 80's Wisdom

Wisdom from the 80’s (9)

My wife actually prompted this one on vacation this week. She noted that the establishment we were having breakfast in reminded her of “Mel’s Diner” from the TV show Alice. Our waitress also looked a bit like “Flo” (insert Dumb and Dumber quote here). I checked and “Alice” ran from 1976 – 1985. So this would still qualify. With that I give you this weeks “Wisdom from the 80’s” “Kiss My Grits….” Continue reading Wisdom from the 80’s (9)

Wisdom from the 80’s (VIII)

“Ronnie, Bobbie, Ricky and Mike If I love the girl who cares who you like!” I heard this song recently and had to post it. I was a HUGE New Edition fan. Watching this brought back some great memories. I went to see them in concert with UTFO (gulp) and the Jessie Johnson Review. Other notables from this video are: Ralph Tresvant’s Mullet. Bobby Brown’s Gerry Curl No Johnny Gill (he replaced Bobby when he went solo). Bel Biv Devoe long before the “Poison” and “Do Me” days. Continue reading Wisdom from the 80’s (VIII)
