I am blessed to have a job where I work out of a home office. One of the greatest parts of my work day occurs around 3:30. It is at this time that there comes a very quiet knock on my office doors. Along with the knock comes a little voice that says “daddy….daddy”. When I open the doors, I am greeted with the same statement, “I waked up”.

After restoring what is left of my defenses, I get down on my knees and my little one climbs into my lap for a few minutes of silence. There she finds peace, and I find another million reasons why it’s great to be a dad.

As I replay this same scenario in my mind, I am reminded of a song by Mercy Me that never made it to radio. It’s a shame because it might be one of their best. It’s called “Keep Singing”. The lyrics are below, but they describe how there are times when we just want to climb up into the lap of our holy father and find peace. In the midst of the storm, we have got to keep singing.

I think of my 3 year old again. As she plays with her dolls, she sings little songs. As if the world outside was crumbling, it wouldn’t matter. She would still be singing, and going on with her day. As they say “and a child will lead them”. Lord give me the child like faith to keep singing, to keep praising your name. “You’re the one that’s keeping my heart beating”.

“Keep Singing” – By Mercy Me

Another rainy day
I can’t recall having sunshine on my face
All I feel is pain
All I wanna do is walk out of this place
But when I am stuck and I can’t move
When I don’t know what I should do
When I wonder if I’ll ever make it through

I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
You’re the one that’s keeping my heart beating
I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
That’s the only way that I’ll find healing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don’t wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don’t wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Oh You’re everything I need
And I gotta keep singing
