By the time most of you read this, I will be sitting, center stage, in the middle of the biggest interview process of my life. While this will take place with my current employer, the 6 people I will meet with tomorrow are the highest six individuals in our organization. The potential is huge, the opportunity is great and sure as I am sitting here, I have no idea what to do. I am sitting in a hotel room, after a 2 plus hour drive and contemplating what I just heard. Let me explain.

For over 8 weeks now, I have played a mental game of table tennis about this opportunity. Is this what God wants for my life, or is the enemy raising the stakes to divert my passions and interests? I still don’t have the answer. We are down to the 11th hour here, so I figured the drive over would be a good time of prayer and listening. After the usual buffer of music, I reached over on the iPOD and started a random podcast. With a title like “My Fridge is Your Fridge” I figured it was safe enough. It was from Willow Creek which always seems to hit me right between the eyes. They did it again!

Turns out the idea behind “My Fridge is Your Fridge” boils down to one word….community. The regulars here will tell you that I have talked about that word multiple times. It’s my passion. It’s what makes me tick. It is how I am wired. It’s how we are all wired. This whole sermon was about our need for community. He even referenced one of my favorite books (Everybody’s Normal Till You Get to Know Them by John Ortberg). At one point, I hit pause, looked up at the sky and said “okay God…I get it”. Still not sure what this all means, but if nothing else, I know God was reminding me to remember who I am. Remember how am wired and how I long to see people connected in community. Maybe it’s in the corporate world. Maybe it’s in a church. Could be Columbus, might be Indianapolis, Indiana.

Only time and 6 hours of interviews tomorrow will tell. But one thing is for sure, God just used an iPOD, I-70 and a stretch between Ohio and Indiana to remind me how I am wired.
