Cover of Love You Forever

On Monday nights, my oldest two children have piano lessons. This means that our youngest child and I get to spend some quality time with one another. I usually allow for whatever it is that she would like to do to fill this space of time. We play board games, watch a movie or, like last night, read books. As we settled into the chair with a huge stack of books, I though that the timing was perfect to introduce her to a book that my Mom read to me – “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch.

As I read through the book, I couldn’t help the crack in my voice. If you have children, this is one of my two “Must Have” books. Even if your children are older, it’s never too late to share this story (my mom read it to me when I was in college). The second “Must Have” book is called “I’ll Wait Right Here” by Ron DiCianni. This is another book that if you can make it through without getting all welled up, you’re a bigger parent than I am.

I’ll Wait Right Here” is a touching story about a Dad’s promise to his son. It was a gift from my sister for Christmas one year long before “the boy” was ever born. I read it to him once and could hardly get through it. While both stories really pull at the heart strings, they bring home the message of our love for our children. As silly as I thought my Mom reading this to me when I was all grown up was, I cherish that moment now. I treasure that story.

If you’re a parent, soon to be a parent, or know someone with children, both of these books are “Must Have” gifts. Pick them up today and make a memory or two for you and your child.
