I had one of those “deep thoughts while grass cutting” moments again today. It happens every time. I think it might be the combination of boredom and music on my iPod that makes these things happen. Regardless, I have a question…Do you think Policeman ever speed or break the law? Do fireman ever play with matches, fire or fireworks? If you answered yes to either of these questions, I have another question:

Why do we bring major judgement upon a Pastor that fails?

I think I just lost half of the people reading this post. If you’re still with me, hear me out. I am not saying that any of the above should be alright or accepted. I guess I just wondered that. I remember when I was growing up, our family doctor smoked like a madman. I bet he’s not the only doctor that does although he is intimately familiar with the effects. I have several friends that are Pastors. They not only need to battle their own struggles, but carry the burden of many, many others. I’m not even mentioning the heavy attack they are under spiritually.

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this question. I guess it just struck me that I, for one, probably get more “shock and awe’d” when I hear of a Pastor that fell then a cop that was speeding or a doctor that smokes. Maybe their not the same thing, but what can I say, I was bored cutting the grass and that was my thought process.

Your Turn: Is there a double standard for Pastors and if yes, is it justifiable?
