During baseball games that “the boy” plays, I spend time offering tips and tricks and nursing him through sometimes inning by inning. Before some at bats either I will visit the dugout or he will visit the place I am sitting. When he is pitching, I offer encouragement, sometimes one pitch after another. So a few weeks ago when someone gave them mini-candy bars after the game, he took two, ate one, walked over to us and promptly gave the other one to….. his Mom.
There are days when a boy just needs his Mommy.
I’m going to take the liberty to think most everyone reading this knows the kind of day when you just need your Mom. You need to hear her voice and the words that tell you “it’s gonna be alright”. Dad can tell you. Your wife can tell you. Your kids and friends can all tell you but it never sounds better or more true than when it comes from Mom.
For those new to the blog, my Mom passed away in March of 2010. I rejoice in her place in Heaven but gotta be honest and say that there are days when this boy needs his mommy. There are moments when a phone call of encouragement and understanding could change the outlook of a day. Today is one of those days.
Moms, don’t ever underestimate the power of your words of encouragement. Pour them into your kids early and often. If any of you are reading this and haven’t called home lately, take the time to do so today. If you’re reading this and, like me, your Mom is in the presence of Jesus, rejoice and thank the Lord for the blessing that was your Mom too.

My mom has been gone 19 years and I STILL have days where it seems nothing else would make things better more than hearing her voice or crying on her shoulder. In the past month I have two friends who have both lost their moms and it’s such a different kind of loss than any other. Something one could never possibly understand until you’re part of that club. :/ Praying for you and my friends this weekend. I know the bitter sweetness that comes with being a parent on such days while missing your own.
I pray the same for you Arminda. When you know, you know. You know? The reunion will be a special one day. That is my anchor. Love on your kids (which I know you do) 🙂
