While the entire world looked forward to Super Bowl Sunday, Journey Church had planned to celebrate what we called “Souper Bowl Sunday”. It’s something we do annually and a time to reflect on the previous year. It is important to … Continue reading Sunday Morning Reset
There a times in your life when you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that you’ve turned a corner on something. Sunday morning, I think I turned the corner on several levels. While I am certainly no where near Eric Clapton on the guitar, it is getting better. I’ve still got a LOOOONG way to go, but it is nice to see and hear some improvement. It makes it easy to keep working and trying when it is something you’re passionate about. Speaking of being passionate about something, as I stated in my last post, God worked on my … Continue reading Sunday Morning Reset
I often troll Youtube for videos of potential songs we will sing at Journey Church. Once I receive the worship set for the upcoming Sunday, I use the videos to practice my guitar along with. I have found a trend in many of the videos that, if I’m honest, I get a bit jealous of. Maybe jealous isn’t the right word, but it’s the only one that comes to mind right now. What I see are people coming to worship the God of this universe completely SOLD OUT. They sing with hands raised, unaware of their surrounding, uninhabited by the … Continue reading Are You A Sell Out?
Have you ever seen a guy performing on stage with what looks like the spine of a dinosaur on his microphone stand? I always just thought they were trying to be cool by showing all of their guitar picks. I don’t know that I have ever seen one of them lose one and then grab another one from the stock on their microphone. Boy was I wrong. Yesterday morning I launched a guitar pick while strumming during the worship set at Journey Church. I don’t have a microphone, or a stand so I didn’t have backup picks at the quick … Continue reading Sunday Morning Reset
Since our Worship Leader Ted has allowed me to stand on stage and play the guitar with him, I have been flooding him with songs I think we should do. Here’s you chance to rock the vote too. Below are just a few of the songs I have sent him. Weigh in on the ones you like. I can’t promise we’ll do any of them at Journey Church sometime soon, but it’s good to know what the people want…. “Overcome” by Jeremy Camp “Healer” by Hillsong “Follow You” by Leeland Continue reading Rock The Worship Set Vote
A few months ago I took on the project of building a new church website for Journey Church where my wife and I attend. This wasn’t a task that I just raised my hand for, I volunteered because it’s my passion and a place God has wired (no pun intended) me. I’ll let others debate if it’s a spiritual gift or not, but I know this much….we should serve the church where our passion meets our knowledge. When that happens, the church is alive with people serving each other and advancing His Kingdom. Building our website has already been a … Continue reading The Table Project
Yesterday morning Journey Church had the distinct honor and privilege of having Dr. Bill Brown and OneVoice from Cedarville University join us for our Sunday Service. “OneVoice” tore a hole in the roof at the Dublin Recreation Center where we meet by lifting their voices and flat-out bringing some worship. By the time they were done, you knew you had been to church. I pray THAT is how we worship in Heaven. Man it was awesome (see clips below). Dr. Brown (President of Cedarville University) then delivered a message entitled “Hope For The Journey”. You can hear the entire message … Continue reading It’s Gonna Be Alright
On Sunday morning I was working the table to distribute tickets for the Evening with David Pendleton at Journey Church. As people would arrive at the table, they would issue their request for the number of tickets they would like. One man approached and when I asked how many he would like he simply said “just one”. I’m sitting here today and those two words continue to haunt my very core. “Just one” When I think back over the entire morning, I am reminded that this kind man sat just a few seats down from me during the service. He … Continue reading “Just One…”

Our Church recently wrapped up a series on Jonah. As a part of the series, our incredible Children’s Pastor put together a little number for the event. You can see it below. In other Journey Church news, we’re getting ready to give our current web site a major facelift. I’ll let you know when it’s live. Until then, enjoy this… Continue reading Run Jonah Run
It has been a few months since I last posted “Sermon Notes”. Truthfully, an entire teaching series on the Beatitudes went by without me getting any of them up here to the blog. I can’t say that I will get them up here every week, but I thought I would get you all caught up on the most recent teaching series at Journey Church. Sadly we will miss next week and 2 other weeks of this series while we are (ironically enough) on Road Trips to Half Marathons. Here is a taste of the first 2 weeks of the series: … Continue reading Road Trip Sermon Notes
No, I have not been to Bethlehem. When I say that I visited “The Manger“, I am actually referring to an incredibly ministry opportunity that Journey Church is supporting this week in Columbus, Ohio. My family and I found ourselves with a free evening (which NEVER happens) so we made our way over to “The Manger” to offer our assistance. Friends, this was a wonderful experience. In short, The Manger gives families that have fallen on hard times the opportunity to purchase 3 gifts for all of those people in their family (themselves included) for $2 each. This includes one “large … Continue reading I Visited The Manger….
As they say, this “tis the season”. Journey Church is proud to partner with a local giving opportunity called “The Manger“. For those in the Northwest Columbus area, this will be one of those opportunities that will mean as much to you as those that we are able to help. Here is the story behind this wonderful ministry: THE MANGER helps families in need in Northwest Columbus by providing a Christmas shopping experience that is an affordable option. Through the donations of new, unwrapped merchandise from businesses, individuals, schools, churches and civic groups, parents and caretakers with demonstrated need have the opportunity to … Continue reading Giving Opportunity – The Manger
For those that follow “Sermon Notes”, below is a preview of what is to come. For those in the Columbus/Hilliard/Dublin area that are looking for a place to celebrate the Christmas season over the next few Sunday’s, this is for you too! I’m looking forward to the upcoming series at Journey Church themed “It’s A Wonderful Life“. The note below is from our Pastor Denny – What’s your favorite Christmas movie? I think mine is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” In the movie, George Bailey (played by Jimmy Stewart) finds out that his life, though seemingly insignificant and meaningless to him, … Continue reading Its A Wonderful Journey!

“Your greatest regret could have been avoided had you asked The Best Question Ever and then acted on your conclusion”. Oh to have a time machine! If we could all only have “that one back”. Since we can’t, so many of us have learned to grow from the mistake and make a better decision next time. This weeks sermon notes, for me, should go a long way towards helping me make those decisions. The service was a broadcast of a teaching from Andy Stanley of North Point Community Church and based on the book by Andy of the same title. This … Continue reading Sermon Notes 8/2
